Resetting Your HVAC System – Fall 2024

October 25, 2024

As of the end of October, your condo building has successfully switched it’s HVAC system from cooling (AC) to heating (Heat). It is important to note that after the switch is complete, the heating/cooling system will often need to be rebalanced in the building before it becomes fully operational. As adjustments are made, individual unit systems may trip and fail, requiring users to reset their ensuite systems. Please refer to the reset instructions below.

During this seasonal transition, we find that some residents notice temperature fluctuations as the system adjusts, which can last a few days. Unseasonably warm weather around this time of year can cause discomfort for some residents. To help manage the temperature in your suite, please consider the following:

  • Keeping your blinds or window shades closed when the sun is directed through your windows (morning, midday, or mid-afternoon depending on the exposure of your unit)
  • Consider turning off the fan coil completely, either via the thermostat, or breaker panel
  • Open your windows or balcony door(s) to help improve air circulation

Step 1:
Switch your thermostat off. Locate the power switch for your heat pump/HVAC and turn it off as well. This could be via the circuit breaker in your electrical panel, or a switch within the unit itself. Open the heat pump/HVAC door by gently tugging on the right hand side of the metal panel near the top and bottom right. (Your panel may be reversed, where you may need to open it from the left). The power switch is often white, and located in the upper left corner. Make sure the unit is fully powered down before proceeding.

Step 2:
Wait for at least 10 minutes so the system can reset any internal capacitors.

Step 3
After 10 minutes, turn your heat pump / HVAC back into the on position, and close the heat pump door by gently pushing the top right and bottom right (left if your panel is reversed) to ensure the cover is securely closed.

Step 4
Once the power is restored check the thermostat settings to ensure they are set correctly for your desired temperature and operating mode. Since the winter months are approaching, ensure the thermostat is set to heat, and the desired temperature for heating.

Step 5
Observe your heat pump / HVAC for the next cycle to ensure it is operating normally. Listen for any unusual noises and ensure the warm air is coming from the vents now that the building’s heating system has been activated.

If you are still experiencing issues your fan coil after the above-mentioned steps have been taken, please ensure to reach out to your landlord. Individual fan coil maintenance is the owner’s responsibility, and it is imperative that if necessary, service is arranged as soon as possible.

Thank you for your cooperation.
